Profiles of the speakers for the 2007 Defending DUIs program.
Doug Cowan
Doug Cowan has limited his practice to defending DUIs for almost almost three decades. He has lectured or conducted workshops for other lawyers in 19 states, and is coauthor of the text, Defending DUIs in Washington. He is a Founder and current Fellow of the National College for DUI Defense, served on its Board of Regents from 1994-2000, served as Dean of the College for the 1996-97 academic year and received the College's Lifetime achievement award in 2000 in recognition of a career committed to excellence in the representation of his clients and for his many contributions to the betterment of the DUI Defense Bar. He is also a founder of the Washington Foundation for Criminal Justice, dedicated to DUI defense, and served as its President from 1989-1998. Doug has been named one of "Seattle's Best Lawyers" by Seattle Magazine, and a "Super Lawyer" by Washington Law & Politics Magazine six years in a row.

Ken Fornabai
Ken Fornabai is president of the Washington Foundation for Criminal Justice, with his practice limited to defending persons accused of alcohol-related offenses. He is a founding member National College of DUI Defense, a member of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and is nationally recognized for DUI defense. He has lectured at the UW School of Law DUI Defense Certification Program, WFCJ annual Defending DUIs seminar (since 1986,) the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice, the Nebraska Criminal Defense Seminar, and the National College of DUI Defense held at Harvard Law School. He's been voted a "Super Lawyer" by Washington Law and Politics (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006), and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Eric Gaston
Eric Gaston, a partner at Cowan, Smith, Kirk and Gaston, is a graduate of the National College for DUI Defense and is certified in administering the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He has been published in the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers journal, the King County Bar Association Practice Manual and lectured for the Washington Trial Lawyers Association. Eric has been named a, "Rising Star" in Washington Law & Politics in 2002, 2006, and 2007, and is a member of the Washington Foundation for Criminal Justice, the National College for DUI Defense, Northwest Academy for DUI Defense (President 2005), and the Washington Trial Lawyers Association (Chair-Criminal Law Section 2005).

John T. Kirk
Tommy Kirk concentrates his Montgomery, Alabama practice in DUI and other alcohol related offenses. A former Municipal Prosecutor for Montgomery, Kirk began his criminal defense career in 1980. He became President of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and was awarded its highest honor, the Roderick Beddow, Sr. Award for his service to criminal defense. Mr. Kirk is a Founding Member of the National College for DUI Defense, Inc. (NCDD). He has been a member of NCDD's governing body, the Board of Regents, and is past Dean of the College. Most recently, July 2007, Tommy was awarded the NCDD's highest honor, the Erwin-Taylor Award, given for the contributions he has made to the National College for DUI Defense. Mr. Kirk travels and speaks extensively throughout the country.

William Kirk
William Kirk is a partner at Cowan, Smith, Kirk and Gaston. He is certified in administering the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and has been trained by National Patent, the manufacturer of Washington's breath machine. He is a fivetime graduate of the National College for DUI Defense, has served as a guest lecturer and is currently the State Delegate for Washington. Bill has also been named a "Super Lawyer" by Washington Law & Politics in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He is a member of the Northwest Academy for DUI Defense, Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Diana Lundin
Diana Lundin is the leading authority on Department of Licensing administrative actions and criminal and civil appeals at Fox Bowman Duarte. Jim Nesci
James Nesci is the managing partner of Nesci, St. Louis & West PLLC. He is a Regent of the National College for DUI Defense and has been Board Certified since 2001. Jim defends cases well into the .30 blood alcohol range as well as DRE cases. He was one of the lead attorneys on the Intoximeters RBT-IV breath-testing issue in Arizona which resulted in the suppression of breath tests in over 3,000 cases and the removal of the RBT-IV from the streets of Arizona. He was lead trial attorney for Diana Ross on DUI charges and represented fitness guru Richard Simmons for assault. He currently represents Tampa Bay Buccaneers' tight-end Jerramy Stevens. He is the author of Arizona DUI Defense: The Law & Practice, and is currently co-authoring DUI defense books in eleven other states.

Kai Sakstrup
Kai Sakstrup joined Jury Insight after ten years of experience in strategic management consulting and general management. Most recently, Kai worked in Bain & Company, crafting corporate strategy for firms ranging from Global 1000's to start-ups. Kai's specific consulting specialty has been helping companies from retail and industrial to private equity to build strategies for entering new markets, re-branding and re-energizing products, benchmarking key performance indicators against competitors, and developing investment strategies. Kai led a small regional business into a national stature through crafting and executing strategies which created growths of 300% in revenue and 250% in profitability in 6 years. Kai earned an MBA with distinction from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University where he was also named the Theodore Krasnow Scholar for academic and entrepreneurial achievement.

Ted Vosk
Ted Vosk is a graduate of Harvard Law School and has degrees in both physics and mathematics. He is licensed to practice in the States of Washington and Massachusetts with his primary area of practice being criminal defense, appeals and consulting. He has been named a Goldwater Scholar for his work in physics and mathematics, a "Rising Star" in criminal law by Washington Law and Politics Magazine and is a member of MENSA.

Aaron Wolff
Aaron Wolff is a partner at The Hayne & Wolff Law Firm. After graduating with honors from the Seattle University School of Law in 1999, Mr. Wolff began his legal career as a DUI prosecutor for the cities of Kirkland and Tukwila. In 2003, Mr. Wolff joined Stephen Hayne, where he has limited his practice to defense of DUI's and other serious traffic offenses. He is a graduate of the National College of DUI Defense, the DRE Drug Evaluation classification overview program and is a NHTSA qualified administrator of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. In 2004, Mr. Wolff completed the BAC Datamaster training program at National Patent's Datamaster manufacturing facility in Mansfield, Ohio. He currently serves as an executive board member for Citizens for Judicial Excellence.
